A Journey of Growth, Support, and Community: Jeremiah & Elijah
Sometimes, all it takes is one conversation to open the door to something meaningful.
In June 2023, while working at a small store in Pickering Mall, Jeremiah and Elijah’s grandmother was introduced to AFIYU by our founder, Andrea. After learning more about the organization and its mission, she quickly saw how AFIYU could be a positive space for her grandsons to grow, learn, and build confidence.

Since the summer of 2023, Jeremiah and Elijah have been active participants in AFIYU’s mentorship program and many of the initiatives we offer. From tutoring and summer camp to drumming, arts, the Black Jewel Library, and holiday programs, they’ve had opportunities to learn, express themselves, and stay engaged in a supportive environment.
AFIYU also works to remove barriers for families by subsidizing fees for activities like soccer and martial arts, helping youth explore their interests and stay active. Beyond programs, our team supports families by sharing information and connecting them to helpful educational resources when needed.

Stories like Jeremiah and Elijah’s remind us why community support matters. Through fundraising, donations, and the dedication of our team, AFIYU continues to create opportunities for youth and families who may not otherwise have access to these resources.
We’re proud to walk alongside families like theirs — and we look forward to supporting many more young people as they discover their strengths, build confidence, and grow into their full potential.
